I feel like a douche and need advice:
Anonymous said: Do lesbian's really have any institutional privilege over bi women on the basis of sexuality though? Bi erasure sucks (I am bi and deal with it constantly from friends who feel the need to speculate constantly on "which I prefer" or tell me to choose), but that's not the same as the institutional oppression we face from homophobia/misogyny, which lesbians also face, and I find the insinuation that they are our oppressors just like men and straight people are really offensive
Well yeah??? Do you know what our numbers are like compared to monosexual queer people?
Our suicidality rate is going on double theirs, our rate of mental illness is double theirs and this is caused by a lack of access to support from the wider queer community. Our numbers skew theirs, but we are still invisible and still excluded so they get the resources we need.
And just anecdotally Ive been told on a number of occasions by lesbians that bisexual women carry disease and should be kept separate from the rest of the gay community because all we do is spread STDs and lie and cheat.
So yes, i do think monosexual gay people carry a degree of institutional privilege over bisexual people within the gay community - let me repeat that a DEGREE of privilege WITHIN THE GAY COMMUNITY.
Its not the same or any where near as damaging as the overarching privilege held by men and straight people but it’s there and it’s still extremely toxic and contributes directly to our obscenely high rate of mental illness and suicidality.
There are numbers, there are studies and they all get swept under the carpet because pff well work it out for yourselfBierasure is an institution and it is killing us.
You attempt to go into your room but a trio of muscular men block your way in.
You’ve been Baracaded.
